11th hour, 11th day, 11th month of 1918. Suddenly the shelling stopped. Silence. Peace after more than 4 years of the “War to End All Wars”.
Now we call it Veterans’ Day in honor of those who served in all wars. They put their lives at risk for the sake of their nation. Many came home with wounds that never fully healed, including the nightmares. Some failed to come home at all, except in a box.
I served in the medical corps. I salute those who served on the line. And I thank them for their sacrifice. To all members of the military past and present: Thank you for serving!
