It’s Hard to Be Three
It’s even harder to suddenly be a Big Brother instead of an Only Child. RJ now has to do both. He turned 3 years the day after his new sister turned 2 months.
Grammy and Papa Jay spent a long weekend visiting RJ and baby sister Gwen. The result was Blue Zones all around.
We took RJ for big boy activities, where he was the center of attention, like the old days. His parents got time for themselves and Baby Gwen. He went swimming 3 different times with his parents, while we took care of Baby Gwen at poolside. RJ had movie night and went camping in his sleeping bag (in the hotel room). He slept the whole night through. So did his parents at home.
Extended Family is one of the basic principles of the Blue Zones. Our long weekend in MN reminded us why Extended Family, at least part of the time, can be better than the Nuclear Family, or One Parent Family. If you don’t have one, make one with friends.
Children and Parents, and Siblings, need a break from each other now and again to stay in “The Blue Zones” and to “Thrive”. (Read them both.) Having or creating an Extended Family improves your health and happiness.
