I love the natural world.  I have reveled in the progression of different native flowers from the bloodroots in March through the Queen Anne’s lace now fading.  I look forward to the New England asters which will herald the Monarch butterfly migration.

Goldenrod is beautiful, and important to many species of bees, butterflies, and other insects.  But Goldenrod blooms at the same time as Ragweed, and I am lying on a bed of thorns.

PTH is ParaThyroid Hormone

PTH is ParaThyroid Hormone.  This is not Thyroid.  The Parathyroid glands live next to the thyroid gland.  They are like 4 spots on the butterfly-shaped thyroid gland’s wings.  But their function is totally different

High PTH warns us that not enough Calcium is being absorbed from diet and/or supplements.  When not enough calcium is being absorbed, the blood calcium level drops. If the blood calcium drops too low, you will die.  The Parathyroid glands prevent that.  The Parathyroid glands’ job is to steal calcium from your bones.

A patient was very disappointed recently, that his Bone Mineral Density (BMD) had NOT IMPROVED, despite anabolic medication for his Osteoporosis.  The reason for failure became obvious as soon as we reviewed his diet and supplements.

His total Calcium intake is 500 mg daily in diet, with NO supplements.  He prefers to avoid supplements as “unnatural”.   This is OK.  Natural Calcium in Foods is actually better than supplements.  But you have to consume it.  And you need to take it properly spaced throughout the day.

It’s even harder to suddenly be a Big Brother instead of an Only Child.  RJ now has to do both.  He turned 3 years the day after his new sister turned 2 months.

Grammy and Papa Jay spent a long weekend visiting RJ and baby sister Gwen.  The result was Blue Zones all around.
