Iowa Winter Blue Zone
Crisp white snow, clear blue skies and bright early morning sun. Just below zero F (-20 C) with a light breeze. I am warm indoors in my sweater at 60 F drinking my (one allowed daily) cup of coffee at my kitchen table.
Outside are flashes of red, black & white, brown, gray. A pair of cardinals, plus many chickadees, house finches, goldfinches, junkos, and a few house sparrows flock to the black oil sunflower and niger thistle feeders. Downey woodpeckers, nuthatches, red-bellied woodpeckers, and an occasional flicker prefer the suet.
I sit for a few minutes, clearing my mind of human worries. I immerse myself in the natural world close outside my window. I enter a “Blue Zone” of calm and pleasure. Moments like this improve my health and increase my joy in living. I Take Contol Naturally.
Each person must feed his or her body daily with enough calcium, vitamin D3 and protein for optimal bone health. Feeding the soul with enough calm and contemplation each day is at least as important.
You may think you have no time to waste on a few minutes of “idleness” each day. I made that mistake too many times in the past.
Find the time for quiet contemplation. Find the time for family and friends. Find the time to give of yourself to others. In doing so, you will find greater health and happiness.
