The “Blue Zones” are Coming to Iowa
Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa have been chosen to be a Blue Zones Community (Trademarked). This will take a lot of work, but the effort could pay huge dividends as healthier lifestyles often lead to better health and greater enjoyment of life.
“The Blue Zones” by Dan Buettner is worth reading. The official subtitle is “Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest.” As a physician with 40 years experience, I find the information worth contemplating.
Our modern lifestyles are beginning to erode the amazing gains we have made in lifespan, especially in healthy + happy lifespan. “The Blue Zones” describes individuals in their 90’s and 100’s who are living happy, productive lives in communities with many more centenarians than elsewhere in the world. How do they do it? There are some common themes.
The Waterloo – Cedar Falls community is part of the effort to dramatically improve the health and happiness of Americans with lifestyle modifications. Iowa is the first statewide effort by the Blue Zones organization.
The Take Control Naturally blogs are specifically about bone health and osteoporosis prevention. “The Blue Zones” is about much more. Read the book. Click on the link. “May you live long and prosper.”
